As foreseen in Work Package 2 of the project, the online version of the course on Food and Nutritional Resilience, created within the framework of NEEMA and developed in collaboration with all partner universities, was launched last April. This three-month curriculum offers comprehensive and multidisciplinary content that prepares students in the most relevant topics related to Food and Nutritional Resilience. Specifically, the modules proposed have been the following:

  • MODULE 1. Rural entrepreneurship and local capacities for food and nutritional resilience. Coordinated by MCI – Innsbruck Management Centre (Austria).
  • MODULE 2. Social innovation for rural development and sustainable food systems. Coordinated by UAM – Amadou Mahtar Mbow University (Senegal).
  • MODULE 3. Strengthening the value chains of small producers. Coordinated by UCAD – Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (Senegal).
  • MODULE 4. Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 2 “End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture” + SDGs related to food and nutritional resilience. Coordinated by the University of Seville (Spain).
  • MODULE 5. SDG 5 – Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Coordinated by HH – Haaga Helia (Finland).
  • MODULE 6. Sustainable practices for the valorization of agri-food waste. Coordinated by UNIGE – University of Genoa (Italy).
  • MODULE 7. Development of local action projects. Practical module. Coordinated by the IPR/IFRA – Rural Polytechnic Institute for Training and Applied Research (Mali)

Originally, this training was aimed at a target audience (students, decision-makers, and representatives of relevant associations and entities involved in guaranteeing the right to food) linked to participating African universities in Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. However, there was so much demand from other countries that registration was opened to anyone interested.

The number of registrations and the participation rate have completely exceeded expectations and objectives.

About NEEMA

NEEMA is a 36-month training project of the Ulysseus European University, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. The initiative aligns with the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy, adapting these frameworks to the specific challenges faced by the Sahel and West Africa. Led by the University of Seville, NEEMA aims to improve food and nutrition resilience, particularly among vulnerable populations. Bringing together 14 universities from Africa and Europe, the project promotes collaboration, develops locally relevant curricula, and implements pilot initiatives to strengthen local capacities in food security and sustainability.
