From 13 to 17 July 2026, the University of Seville is hosting a delegation from Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar (UCAD, Senegal) in the context of the NEEMA project. This initiative aims at reinforcing academic and institutional cooperation between the University of Seville and partner countries from the Sahel region.

The delegation, made up by senior academics and researchers from UCAD, are participating in an intense programme of meetings aimed at expanding collaboration in research, doctoral education, and international mobility. Discussions focus on creating new mobility opportunities for academic staff and doctoral students, particularly with key centres of the University of Seville, such as the International Doctorate School (EIDUS), the Faculty of Pharmacy, and the Higher Technical School of Engineering (ETSII).

The programme features various activities including a working session on Economic Policy research, involving Professor Serigne Bassirou Lo and academics from both institutions. Participants are also reviewing the latest initiatives of the NEEMA project, including the presentation of the NEEMA Toolkit —collaboratively developed by University of Seville researchers —, ongoing field research activities, preparations for the Dakar 2026 International Conference and the closing event of NEEMA which will take place in Seville in 2027.

The visit brings together a distinguished group of scholars and university leaders, including UCAD representatives Professors Lucienne Kodou Ndione, Serigne Bassirou Lo, Adama Faye, Bara Ndiaye and Papa Talla, alongside University of Seville representatives led by Rector Carmen Vargas Macías, Ulysseus General Coordinator Rocío Martínez de Pablos, and NEEMA Principal Investigator Miguel Ángel Martín López.

This event reaffirms the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening international partnerships, promoting knowledge exchange, and addressing common societal challenges through collaborative research and higher education initiatives.

About NEEMA

NEEMA is a 36-month capacity building project of Ulysseus European University funded through the ERASMUS+ program. It aligns with the European Green Deal and Farm to Fork Strategy, adapting these frameworks to the unique challenges of the Sahel and West Africa.

Led by the University of Seville, NEEMA aims to enhance food and nutritional resilience, focusing on vulnerable populations. The project involves 14 universities across Africa and Europe, fostering collaboration, designing contextual curricula, and launching pilot initiatives to strengthen local capacities in food security and sustainability.
