NEEMA Project Holds Third Steering Committee in Genoa
The NEEMA project successfully conducted its Third Monitoring Committee on 30-31 January 2025, hosted by the University of Genoa. This biannual face-to-face meeting gathered African and European NEEMA partners, with most attending in person while some participated online.

The NEEMA project, a collaborative initiative under the ERASMUS+ programme, holds monthly online Steering Committee meetings. However, every six months, a physical gathering is organised in a different consortium country to facilitate more in-depth discussions. The Genoa meeting focused on the technical and budgetary progress of the project, reviewing activities and deliverables completed thus far while planning for the upcoming six months.
Key Discussions and Agendas
The first day of the meeting featured welcome remarks from the University of Genoa and an introduction of participants. Several sessions followed, covering developed activities, delivered milestones, and EU recommendations for ensuring the project’s success. Sara Mercader Perpiñá, NEEMA project manager from the University of Seville, shared insights on project execution.
Specific sessions were dedicated to reviewing implemented activities, assessing produced deliverables, and planning next steps. These discussions were led by representatives from various consortium institutions, including Mamadou Nientao (USJPB), Ewald Eisenberg (HS KEHL), Lucienne Codou Ndione (UCAD), and Dalenda Larifi (UNICA). The review also placed a special emphasis on Work Package 2, which involves the project’s core training curriculum, set to be delivered by the end of February.

Focus on Project Management and Communication
A critical component of the discussions was the enhancement of project management and communication strategies. Partners explored methods to optimise resources and improve collaboration to ensure the successful achievement of project objectives.
On the second day, participants outlined upcoming deliverables and discussed the next face-to-face Steering Committee meeting, including its location and date. The session concluded with a participative workshop led by the University of Genoa team, focused on finalising Module 6 of the curriculum.
The Third Monitoring Committee reaffirmed NEEMA’s commitment to strengthening food and nutritional resilience in West Africa. Through these biannual face-to-face meetings, the project ensures effective coordination, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement in achieving its mission
