The University of Montenegro and the University of Buenos Aires: First Steps towards a New Academic Partnership
The first visit paid by a representative of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) to the University of Montenegro opened discussions on cooperation between the two institutions, including opportunities for collaboration within the Ulysseus European University Alliance, with UMNE as a member. UBA Director of International Relations, Mauricio Lambertucci, PhD, met with Vice-Rector for Internationalisation of the University of Montenegro, Sanja Peković, PhD, and Head of the International Relations Office, Ana Dragutinović.
Prof. Peković presented the activities and opportunities University of Montenegro is developing as a member of the Ulysseus Alliance, particularly in the areas of internationalisation, mobility and cooperation with partners beyond Europe. In this context, the University of Buenos Aires was also discussed as one of the proposed Ulysseus partners for cooperation beyond Europe. It was particularly emphasised that the University of Montenegro is actively leading activities aimed at developing and expanding Ulysseus’ international network of partners.
The meeting opens up opportunities for cooperation with one of the largest and most internationally recognised universities in Latin America. Founded in 1821, the University of Buenos Aires has more than 330,000 students and 13 faculties, and five Nobel Prize laureates have been associated with its academic community.
The meeting focused on concrete first steps and opportunities for cooperation, including student and academic staff exchanges, connecting professors and researchers, virtual student mobility through COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) courses, as well as organisation of joint conferences in Montenegro and Buenos Aires. A framework for a cooperation agreement was also discussed, along with plans for a future visit by UMNE representatives to Buenos Aires.
Prof. Lambertucci particularly emphasised the importance of direct connections among people as foundation of institutional cooperation, proposing that several concrete joint activities will have been defined for the next 12 months summoning professors and academic communities of the two universities.
During his visit, Prof. Lambertucci also toured part of the University of Montenegro campus, where he had the opportunity to learn more about UMNE’s infrastructure and capacities.
