The Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE) is a citizen participation tool created by the European Union and whose proposals and recommendations will be heard by the European Parliament, European Council and European Commission. The conference has different thematic groups with Education, Youth, Culture being one of them.
As part of this initiative, Ulysseus European University is celebrating an Open Event in Seville which is devoted to the CoFoE. This convention focuses on students’ ideas and the active involvement of all participants. In summary, it aims at engaging students in different participatory sessions to feed the discussions taking place in the CoFoE happening in spring.
More than 50 students from six partner universities of Ulysseus European University — the University of Seville (Spain), the Université Côte d’Azur (France), University of Genoa (Italy), the Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® (Austria), and the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland) will meet in Seville to voice their opinion on the Future of European Universities.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in two co-creation sessions and will discuss key topics such as the role of universities on the future societies, their curriculum, the design of their spaces and their approach towards research and innovation. Likewise, they will share their ideas and contribute to the design of the first Ulysseus Joint Masters in Energy, Transport, Mobility and Smart Cities.
Co-creation session one: “Ulysseus students position paper for the Manifesto on the Future of European Universities”
This session aims to collect Ulysseus students’ ideas and wishes in a position paper regarding the future of European Universities in order to feed a manifesto that is currently under preparation by the European Student Community and will be brought out within the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE).
The co-creation session objective is to write a position paper that contains a consensus among diverse viewpoints and that represents Ulysseus’ students views on the future of European Universities. The position paper shall touch upon the following key topics: excellence and inclusion; digital and green (twin) transitions; European approach, multi-stakeholder engagement; Lifelong and life wide learning, including formal, non-formal and informal opportunities within European Universities.
Co-creation session two: “Design of the Joint Masters in Energy, Transport, Mobility and Smart Cities”
The main purpose of this session is to gather inputs on the needs and perspectives of students from different academic levels and backgrounds for the pre-design of the Joint Masters Degree in Energy, Transport, Mobility and Smart Cities. Ulysseus aims at involving students in the bottom-up process of constructing the first Ulysseus joint degree so that it will be transdisciplinary and student-centred, flexible and work-based.
Ulysseus Open Event will convene more than 50 students from the six Ulysseus partner universities, along with more than 40 representatives. Ulysseus is fully committed to the development of inclusive, sustainable and excellent European education and research areas. In fact, this is a Conference on the Future of Europe official event, strengthening the Ulysseus community’s voice in the discussions that are taking place at European level.
Ulysseus is one of the 41 European Universities selected by the European Commission to become the universities of the future. Led by the University of Seville together with five other universities in Europe (the University of Genoa, Italy; Université Côte d’Azur, France; the Technical University of Košice, Slovakia; MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®, Austria; and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Finland), the project will allow students, researchers and graduates to move freely between universities, carry out internships in companies and start high-impact research projects.
