 In this self-paced course you will learn the different letters of the alphabet, as well as the different auxiliary signs that complement it. Arabic may be a very different language from the ones you have studied so far. Therefore, in this process, special attention should be dedicated both to the letters and to the different spellings that do not exist in other languages. Correctly learning these contents is fundamental for the correct acquisition of the Arabic language and avoiding difficulties at higher levels.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will: 

  •  know the basics of spelling and pronunciation in Arabic.  
  •  be able to express all of the sounds in Arabic verbally. 
  •  be able to express all of the sounds in Arabic graphically. 
  •  be able to write in Arabic using the calligraphy and the writing system of the Semitic languages. 

Course Content

Throughout the process of this online course, you will learn: 

  • what makes Arabic special.  You will learn about the uniqueness of the language and some of the peculiarities of Arabic that differentiate it from Indo-European languages (with which you are likely more familiar). 
  • how Arabic is pronounced.  You will learn the basics of spelling and pronunciation, with special attention to new sounds and how they are expressed graphically. 
  • how Arabic is written.  You will become familiar with calligraphy and the writing system of the Semitic languages.  

Recommendations

We suggest that you practise the special characters and check the configuration of your keyboard to incorporate the Arabic language. This will be very useful for the next levels of learning.
