Open Class: From Experimentation to Transformation: ecitySevilla

The Open Class titled From Experimentation to Transformation: Strengthening Collaborative Pathways for Climate-Neutral Innovation — e-City took place on 18 February 2026 as an inspiring hybrid event, held both on site and online.

The event brought together innovators, researchers, policy actors, and local stakeholders to explore how Seville’s vibrant ecosystem—powered by initiatives such as eCitySevilla, the Joint Research Centre’s Experimentation Journey, and the collective expertise of Ulysseus partners—could accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, climate-neutral urban future.

Participants engaged in an open dialogue, delved into the project’s priority challenges, and discovered new opportunities to shape impactful, citizen-centred transformation across the region.

About this Open Class

The event brought together key actors involved in Seville’s climate-neutral transformation to better understand the progress, challenges, and opportunities of the e-CitySevilla initiative.

The Ulysseus Innovation Hub in Seville hosted this open dialogue, which sought to identify local and societal needs while mobilising knowledge and collaboration across the Ulysseus network. Through contributions from eCitySevilla, the Joint Research Centre’s Experimentation Journey, and various Ulysseus partners, the event explored how interregional exchange could support real-life implementation.

Participants gained an updated overview of the project’s status, engaged in discussions to determine which challenges required further experimentation or external support and mapped the resources, expertise, living labs, and training capacities that Ulysseus could offer.

Addressed Challenges:

  • Challenge 1 – Engaging citizens in sustainable mobility and decarbonisation
  • Challenge 2 – Efficient inter-modality to increase public transport use
  • Challenge 3 – Local energy generation and storage
