AI in Education webinar: revolutionizing learning and teaching, potential uses and implications of AI in the field of education
Ulysseus European University is launching COMPASS Insights, a series of webinars on key regional and local challenges.
These are part of the calendar of activities of “COMPASS: Leading Ulysseus to become a European University excellence model through Research and Innovation”, a Horizon 2020 project of Ulysseus and the flagship for its R&I agenda and strategy.
Organised by Ulysseus Innovation Hubs, these webinars will bring together experts from academia, industry and NGO’s, among other organisations to discuss key regional and local challenges.
The webinar on AI in education will explore the current and potential uses of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of education. The session will discuss the ways in which AI can be used to enhance the teaching and learning experience, and how it can be employed to provide personalized learning opportunities to students.
The webinar will cover the ethical and social implications of AI in education, including issues related to data privacy, bias, and algorithmic accountability. It will also explore the challenges of integrating AI into existing educational systems and the need for continued research and development in this area. It will conclude with a discussion of the potential future of AI in education, including the role of AI in supporting lifelong learning and the potential impact of emerging technologies such as ChatGPT. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with the speaker and other attendees.

Principal Lecturer, PhD (Ed.), M.Sc. (Econ.) Haaga-Helia School of Vocational Teacher Education, HH UAS (Finland)
Merja Alanko-Turunen is a Principal Lecturer and researcher in the field of vocational teacher education and designing for learning. Throughout her career, Dr Alanko-Turunen has been involved in developing and implementing vocational teacher education programmes and train the trainer programmes nationally and internationally. Her research has focused on areas such as problem-based learning, peer-group mentoring, and competence-based learning. Dr. Alanko-Turunen has published articles and book chapters on the topic of learning design and vocational teacher education and has presented her research at conferences around the world. She is now actively involved in research projects on digital learning environments and AI in higher education, experimenting with script-based and hopefully soon with AI-based chatbots.
CEO Eximia oy (Finland)
Eximia is a Finnish company that provides an AI application for tutoring students and provide personalized online learning. The application uses artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms to adapt to the individual needs and learning styles of each student. EximiaTutor is primarily used in the field of education, where it is used by schools and other educational institutions to support students in their learning. The application provides interactive learning materials, practice exercises, and feedback mechanisms to help students improve their understanding of various subjects. Teachers and instructors can also use EximiaTutor to monitor student progress and provide additional support as needed.

Margarida Romero is a professor and researcher in the field of educational technology and innovation. She is currently a professor at Université Côte d’Azur in France and an associate researcher at the Interdisciplinary Institute for Innovation (i3), which is affiliated with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Dr. Romero earned her Ph.D. in Educational Technology from the Open University of Catalonia in Spain, where she focused on the design of digital games for learning. She has also earned a master’s degree in Educational Technology and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the same institution.
Associate Professor Inspé de Nice, University Côte D’Azur (France)
Laurent Heiser is an English teacher and researcher with qualifications in Information and Communication Sciences as well as in education and training sciences. He currently serves as the pedagogical manager of the INSPE branch located in La Seyne-sur-Mer, which is a part of the INSPE of the Nice Academy in France. Dr. Heiser is also a teacher for the Digital Culture and Skills module (CCNum) at INSPE.
