Learning Outcomes

Participants will explore key grammatical structures used to express transformation, report speech, and describe actions with nuance and precision in Spanish. Through a sequence of self-paced learning capsules, students will consolidate their understanding of verbs of change, reported speech (estilo indirecto), and verbal periphrases, all within authentic communicative contexts.

As learners deepen their knowledge of Spanish, they will also be invited to virtually immerse themselves in the streets and cultural landscapes of Seville and Andalusia, connecting language learning with the region’s social and cultural richness. By the end of the course, students will be able to recognize and produce intermediate-level grammatical structures with fluency and accuracy, enhancing their ability to understand more complex messages, report others’ statements and intentions, and convey attitudes and temporal perspectives in both spoken and written Spanish.

Course Content

  • Grammatical Content: Structures for expressing physical, emotional, and social transformation through verbs of change; forms and usage of reported speech in both present and past contexts, including changes in tense, pronouns, and references; verbal periphrases for indicating intention, obligation, progression, repetition, and completed or imminent actions; contrastive uses of similar periphrastic structures; integration of complex grammar within communicative contexts related to urban life, interpersonal relationships, and cultural habits in Andalusia.
  • Lexical Content: Throughout the course, students will broaden their vocabulary in ways that allow for more precise, nuanced, and natural expression. Lexical progression is embedded in real communicative situations related to personal experiences, social interactions, and changes in the surrounding environment. Particular focus is placed on understanding and using words and expressions that convey intention, attitude, or point of view, promoting more authentic, coherent, and context-appropriate communication. All of this reflects the complexity and richness of Spanish at an upper-intermediate level and contributes to greater confidence in language use.
  • Communicative Content: Describe personal and social transformations; interpret and reproduce what other people say, feel, or think in everyday and professional contexts; express opinions, reactions, and intentions regarding life plans and changes; understand and produce narrative structures with reported speech; interact in situations related to urban life, customs, and interpersonal dynamics in Seville and Andalusia.
