UlySA: Ulysseus’ first official Student Association presented in Nice

Students unveil a new cross-university alliance to foster collaboration and community in the Ulysseus network.

UlySA: Ulysseus’ first official Student Association presented in Nice

On the second day of the Ulysseus Summit 2024, students from across the Ulysseus European University alliance officially presented the Ulysseus Student Association (UlySA). This presentation marks the launch of the first formal, student-led association within Ulysseus. This constitutes a pioneering initiative that brings students into active participation in Ulysseus projects and decision-making processes. Held within a significant new student-focused framework, UlySA symbolizes the beginning of deeper collaboration between Ulysseus and its student community.

Aims and Purpose of UlySA

UlySA is established as a cross-university network to enhance student life, support mobility, and ensure that the student voice is represented at all levels within the Ulysseus European University. UlySA’s mission is to empower students by creating opportunities that foster cultural awareness, personal development, and support for mental and physical wellbeing.

Key objectives include:

  • Connecting and representing students across all partner universities through UlySA
  • Facilitating Mobility, UlySA works closely with Ulysseus institutions to encourage and support students in gaining access to cross-campus programs and valuable international experiences
  • Building Cultural Awareness and Community Engagement, the association organizes initiatives that strengthen students’ understanding of diverse European cultures and create a more connected student community
  • Facilitating opportunities for the career development of students
  • Supporting Student Wellbeing, UlySA promotes a balanced student experience, with resources focused on mental and physical wellbeing.
  • Improving Research & Innovation cooperation

A Collaborative Governance Model in Development

While UlySA’s initial framework has been established, its governance and operational models are open to ongoing student-led debate. During the Summit, students gathered to evaluate and discuss these foundational structures, recognizing the importance of tailoring UlySA to meet diverse student needs.

This process invites students to examine various governance models and make key decisions on how UlySA will operate, ensuring it remains flexible, inclusive, and responsive to its members.

Engaging Students in Ulysseus Decision-Making

UlySA provides a platform for students to engage with Ulysseus Governing Bodies, bringing student perspectives into the broader decision-making processes of the alliance. Students at all academic levels are encouraged to contribute to UlySA’s development and to work toward a shared vision that supports student mobility, cultural awareness, personal development, and wellbeing across the Ulysseus network.

As the official student voice within Ulysseus, UlySA actively participates in Ulysseus’ Governing Bodies and contributes to the Ulysseus RADAR Observatory, monitoring and assessing Ulysseus’ progress. The association is independent of political or religious affiliations, focusing exclusively on advocating for student interests and supporting the overall mission of Ulysseus.

Membership and Participation

UlySA is open to all students officially enrolled at the eight Ulysseus partner universities: University of Seville (Spain), University of Genoa (Italy), Université Côte d’Azur (France), Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), MCI The Entrepreneurial School® (Austria), Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (Finland), University of Münster (Germany), and University of Montenegro (Montenegro). Each member has the opportunity to engage in UlySA’s initiatives, participate in decision-making, and contribute to Ulysseus’ evolving European network.

Inaugural Collaboration at the Ulysseus Summit 2024

This year’s Summit provided the first opportunity for UlySA to engage directly with Ulysseus stakeholders, setting a foundation for long-term student involvement. During the second day of the event, UlySA representatives showcased their association’s objectives, structure, and planned initiatives to the broader Ulysseus team. This interaction is the first of many steps toward building a close-knit, collaborative environment where students play a key role in shaping Ulysseus’ future.

The launch of UlySA at the Ulysseus Summit 2024 signals a milestone in Ulysseus’ commitment to fostering student leadership and active engagement. As students continue to debate and refine UlySA’s governance, they are setting the groundwork for a dynamic, student-centered association that will adapt and grow with the needs of the community it represents.
