In this lecture, Belén will highlight the critical necessity of integrating ethical frameworks into the rapid evolution of modern technology and Artificial Intelligence. It explores how AI has become the primary driver of innovation, now outperforming humans in complex tasks like language and image recognition, while simultaneously warning of the risks associated with its immense power, such as misinformation, privacy breaches, and the lack of oversight in autonomous systems.

The lecture “Wellbeing in Smart Cities: KPI & Local Policies” examines how quality‑of‑life data indicators, urban scenarios, and participatory methodologies can guide more inclusive and evidence‑based urban policies. By juxtaposing the Italian and Japanese state‑of‑the‑art, the session highlights complementary approaches to measuring urban wellbeing and the potential of integrated analytical systems for understanding contemporary urban complexity.
The online workshop will focus on how participatory and inclusive methods can challenge established hierarchies of knowledge production, embrace a plurality of expertise, and actively involve underrepresented or marginalised groups throughout research and educational processes. This approach not only democratises knowledge but also enriches outcomes by incorporating perspectives often overlooked in conventional settings.
During this engaging session, we will present the project’s progress and upcoming prototype plans, collaboratively validate the functional and non-functional requirements of our AI-based career guidance tool, and explore key ethical criteria for AI applications in guidance.
