Portuguese History (Spring Semester 2026)

Under Salazar (1932–1968), Portugal lived under an authoritarian dictatorship. The Carnation Revolution in 1974 established democracy and led to the independence of the colonies. Since then, the country has modernised, particularly after joining the EU in 1986. Despite economic crises, it remains a stable and dynamic democracy.
