Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an overall understanding of the political, economic, and social issues in the history of the USSR, as well as Soviet art and architecture.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the Soviet Union’s role on the international stage and its relations with Western countries.
  • Apply appropriate methodological tools to enhance their analytical skills.

  • The Russian Empire at the beginning of the 20th century: political, economic, and social evolution
  • Russia and the First World War
  • The Russian Revolutions and their consequences
  • The Soviet Union in the 1920s–1930s
  • The USSR on the international stage
  • Soviet art and architecture
