The aim of this course is to consolidate the basic approach to literary texts, with a view to research. The aim is to encourage personal reflection on the best possible method of literary analysis, and above all to practice analysis.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, the student should be able to…

  • Define the notions of sacred and mystical, and understand their implications across time periods.
  • Identify and discern the major currents of spirituality throughout history.
  • Analyze the relationships between writing and spirituality in the 16th century.
  • Extend the analysis of the relationships between writing and spirituality to other periods.
  • Produce an explanation of a linear text of spiritual poetry and a text of spirituality.
  • Produce a slideshow on the relationships between writing and spirituality in the period studied in the dissertation.
