Round Table: Ethics in AI and Robotics

Round Table: Ethics in AI and Robotics

Organised by the Innovation Hub in Robotics at the University of Genoa (IT), as part of Ulysseus European University. The round table ‘Ethics in AI and Robotics’ will be held during the 19th international conference on Intelligent Autonomous Systems (IAS-19), that will be held in Genoa, Italy, from 30 June to 4 July 2025.

About this event

In the round table ‘Ethics in AI and Robotics’ we will tackle the complex and contentious debate surrounding the ethical and societal questions arising from the dynamic evolution of AI and robotics technologies. As these technologies increasingly influence decision-making, labor, mobility, surveillance, and social interaction, they also bring to the forefront a range of pressing ethical and societal challenges.

We will therefore address the following key questions:
• How can we foster innovation and develop intelligent technologies while protecting fundamental rights?
• How can we ensure that AI and robotics evolve in ways that are ethically grounded, socially responsible, and aligned with democratic values?

From algorithmic bias and lack of transparency to questions of accountability, environmental impact, and job displacement, the ethical terrain surrounding AI-driven systems demands multidisciplinary engagement across engineering, the humanities, education, political science, law, and communication, among others.
Bringing together diverse perspectives, this round table will explore critical topics including fairness and bias in automated systems, the integration of ethics into AI and robotics education, data governance and surveillance, sustainability, and the future of work. The aim is to foster an open and interdisciplinary dialogue on the responsibilities and dilemmas we face as intelligent technologies increasingly shape the fabric of society.

Speakers

The discussion will bring together experts and professors from the Ulysseus European University alliance to explore the complex and often contentious ethical and societal issues emerging from the rapid advancement of AI and robotics. As these technologies increasingly shape areas such as decision-making, employment, mobility, surveillance, and social interaction, they raise urgent questions that demand critical reflection and dialogue.
