Innovation pulses through the on-site University Science Park TECHNICOM, where the TUKE Startup Centre, Incubator and European Digital Innovation Hub CASSOVIUM fast-track ideas from prototype to market and anchor the region’s start-up ecosystem.

The city of Košice, Slovakia

Košice —Slovakia’s second-largest city—pairs eight centuries of history with a distinctly youthful edge. First chronicled in 1230 and proudly bearing Europe’s oldest municipal coat of arms, granted by King Louis the Great in 1369, its Gothic jewel St Elisabeth Cathedral dominates a pedestrian Old Town lined with cafés and galleries. Today the city is a thriving university city: three universities with the Technical University of Košice as the biggest one attract almost 20,000 students, fuelling a lively café culture, start-up scene and nightlife that spill onto Hlavná Street every evening. Named European Capital of Culture in 2013, Košice hosts year-round festivals—from contemporary art showcases to Europe’s oldest Peace Marathon—ensuring visitors can dive into concerts, exhibitions and street performances on any given week.

Košice in short:
• the second largest city in Slovakia (250,000 inhabitants)
• 3 universities (21,000 students)
• European Capital of Culture 2013
• UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts 2018
• European Volunteering Capital 2019
• the oldest marathon in Europe and the third oldest worldwide
• the largest preserved municipal area in Slovakia
