Conflict & Crisis Management in Public Health

This course equips students with essential knowledge and practical skills in conflict and crisis management with a focus on supporting healthy ageing and wellbeing. Topics include conflict resolution, crisis communication, leadership during emergencies, and strategies for promoting public health stability and wellbeing for all, with a particular focus on ageing populations.

Learning outcomes

  • Tackle real-world health crises & conflicts: Learn to analyze and manage public health conflicts with a strong focus on vulnerable and ageing populations.
  • Become aware of crisis communication skills: Craft empathetic, transparent messaging during health emergencies to counter misinformation and support mental wellbeing
  • How to lead with confidence in crisis: Design decision-making frameworks and leadership strategies for effective and equitable crisis response.
  • Think global, act local: Critically assess crisis responses across contexts (e.g., Sweden, Brazil), with attention to systemic inequities and limited-resource settings.

 

 

Course Content

  • Week 1: Conflict analysis & public health risk assessment using data & digital tools
  • Week 2: Crisis leadership & response planning, including insights from Sweden’s COVID-19 strategy
  • Week 3: Crisis communication & public trust-building
  • Week 4: Global crisis response, structural injustice & health equity
