Russian Culture Elementary 2
The course focuses on various aspects of Russian culture from the 15th to the 17th century: historical and socio-political context, art, and architecture.
Learning outcomes
- Trace its evolution and determine its place in relations with the West during that period.
- Deepen knowledge of the various aspects of Russian culture from the 15th to the 17th centuries within the historical and socio-political context.
Course content
- The reigns of Vasily II and Ivan III
- The artistic and religious revival under Ivan III. The reign of Vasily III
- The reign of Ivan IV, known as «the Terrible» (1533-1584)
- The extinction of the Rurik dynasty and the Time of Troubles (1605-1613)
- The early Romanovs and the opening towards the West
- Religious architecture of the 16th-17th centuries
Prerequisites
- Completion of the introductory test for the course
- Completion of the Beginner Russian Culture 1 course (HPEERC1)
