The event took place on November 21 and brought together Malian public authorities, technical experts, and stakeholders to discuss the challenges and opportunities in implementing food and nutrition public policies across the region.
This initiative falls under Task T2.1 of the NEEMA project, which focuses on analysing food and nutritional resilience challenges in West Africa. Specifically, this round table served as a platform to present findings from a multi-country comparative analysis of food and nutrition policies, conducted as part of Work Package 2 on Food and Nutritional Resilience curricula.
The round table in Bamako was one of four similar events being organised in the participating African countries. Discussions revolved around key findings from the analysis of public policies on food and nutrition, identifying shared challenges, and proposing policy recommendations tailored to West Africa’s context. These recommendations will be compiled into a ‘Multi-Country Report on the Analysis of the Procedures and Level of Implementation of Food and Nutrition Public Policies.’ The insights gathered from these events will support policymakers in refining and strengthening strategies to improve food security and nutritional resilience across the region.

NEEMA, a 36-month capacity-building project under Ulysseus European University and funded by the ERASMUS+ programme, aligns with the European Green Deal and Farm to Fork Strategy. Led by the University of Seville, the project engages 14 universities from Africa and Europe in fostering collaboration, developing contextual curricula, and launching initiatives to enhance food security and sustainability, particularly for vulnerable populations in the Sahel and West Africa.
The NEEMA project remains committed to fostering collaboration between academic institutions, governments, and technical experts to address food security challenges in a sustainable and impactful manner. The outcomes of these discussions will be instrumental in shaping policy decisions and educational frameworks that enhance food and nutritional resilience in West Africa.
