Arabic Beginner 2

This book-based course is aimed for those interested in learning Arabic at an elementary level. We will be working towards level A2, so learners who access it should already be familiar with the Arabic alphabet and basic A1 vocabulary and grammar.

 

The course will be synchronous, meaning you will have mandatory live online classes with a teacher available to assist you with any questions or needs you may have in real-time.

Ninety-minute classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 16:00 to 17:30 CET from February 5th to May 24th, with breaks for Easter week, Seville’s Fair, and local holidays.

Learning outcomes

Through active engagement and completion of this course, the student will be able to express themselves in basic linguistic-social situations, to initiate and sustain a conversation with limited vocabulary, and to describe familiar social situations.

Likewise, the aim is to achieve spontaneity in the production of basic phrases even when fluency is low. Furthermore, the aim is to reinforce the student’s confidence in their ability to communicate in Arabic.

Course content

  • Gender and number agreement.
  • Personal, demonstrative, and possessive pronouns.
  • Present tense.
  • Communicative functions: ask and provide information about people (name, age, profession, nationality, etc.), express likes and preferences; describe the existence and location of places and services; talk about habits, make recommendations and give advice; describe living conditions in the past.
  • Students will need a copy of the following textbook:  Mastering Arabic 1 by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar.
