Open Class: From Experimentation to Transformation: e-city

Join us on 18 February 2026 for an inspiring Open Class titled From Experimentation to Transformation: Strengthening Collaborative Pathways for Climate‑Neutral Innovation — e‑City.

This hybrid event (on site and online) brings together innovators, researchers, policy actors and local stakeholders to explore how Seville’s vibrant ecosystem—powered by initiatives such as eCitySevilla, the Joint Research Centre’s Experimentation Journey, and the collective expertise of Ulysseus partners—can accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable, climate‑neutral urban future.

Participants will engage in an open dialogue and will dive into the project’s priority challenges and discover new opportunities to shape impactful, citizen‑centred transformation across the region.

About this event

This event aims to bring together key actors involved in Seville’s climate‑neutral transformation to better understand the progress, challenges and opportunities of the e‑CitySevilla initiative.

The Ulysseus Innovation Hub in Seville hosts this open dialogue seeking to identify local and societal needs while mobilising knowledge and collaboration across the Ulysseus network. Through contributions from eCitySevilla, the Joint Research Centre’s Experimentation Journey and various Ulysseus partners, the event will explore how interregional exchange can support real‑life implementation.

Participants will gain an updated overview of the project’s status, engage in discussions to determine which challenges may require further experimentation or external support, and map the resources, expertise, living labs and training capacities that Ulysseus can offer.

About E-city

The eCitySevilla project is a public-private partnership initiative led by the Andalusian Regional Government, the Seville City Council, the Cartuja Science and Technology Park (PCT Cartuja) and Endesa. It proposes the development of an open, digital, decarbonised and sustainable ecosystem city model on the island of La Cartuja by 2025.

ECitySevilla is leading the way for sustainable cities of the future. In the field of energy, the goal is to ensure that the PCT Cartuja has a 100% renewable electricity supply, generated right on the island of La Cartuja and with more efficient constructions. From the point of view of mobility, sustainable models will be encouraged, with more space for pedestrians and cyclists and the use electric vehicles will be boosted thanks to a new network of charging infrastructure. All this is backed up by a determined commitment to digitisation, with a connected and self-sufficient system, through an intelligent electrical network (Smart Grid) that will also allow an open data platform for the intelligent management of the park.

ECitySevilla is a pioneering smart city project. The project aims at being 100% self-sufficient in energy and emission free in an urban area with 523 companies and organisations and 23,000 people workers.
