About this event

Ulysseus European University invites secondary school students to participate in an international event designed to foster a deeper interest in science, research, and innovation. The event will take place on 24 October 2025, with in-person attendance in Slovakia and online participation from students in other Ulysseus countries.

This initiative aims to introduce young learners to the academic and professional opportunities available through international collaboration. Participants will gain insight into the Ulysseus alliance and its diverse range of study programmes, which are built on excellence, inclusivity, and innovation.

The main goal of the event is the presentation of a newly established scientific journal tailored specifically for secondary school students – UYES (Ulysseus Young Explorers in Science). The event will officially launch its first call for papers, offering students a unique opportunity to share their ideas and research with a wider academic audience.

The programme includes an introduction to the fundamentals of research and academic writing. Students will also hear from young researchers and successful startup founders who will share their personal experiences of transforming ideas into impactful scientific or entrepreneurial ventures. Beyond its educational dimension, the event encourages participants to think critically, communicate effectively, and imagine their future roles in shaping society through knowledge and innovation.

The event is a part of the Ulysseus Košice Week.

Ulysseus Young Explorers in Science (UYES)

Ulysseus Young Explorers in Science (UYES) is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to showcasing original research by secondary school students aged 15–19. Its mission is to provide a platform for young scientists to publish their work, engage in interdisciplinary research, and foster their academic and research development.

The journal welcomes submissions across all scientific disciplines, promoting a diverse range of innovative ideas. With an open peer-review process, Ulysseus Young Explorers in Science ensures a professional yet accessible experience for emerging scholars. Secondary school students from the Ulysseus partner universities’ regions are welcome. The registration is required and is open until 17 October 2025

Event Organiser and Venue

The event is organised by the Technical University of Košice as an activity of Ulysseus European University and part of the Ulysseus Košice Week. The event will be held at the Technical University of Košice in Slovakia.

Founded in 1952 and now spanning nine faculties and more than 12 000 students, the Technical University of Košice (TUKE) is Slovakia’s largest technical university. It is a proud member of Ulysseus European University since 2020.

Located on a 43-hectare green campus within walking distance of Košice’s historic Old Town, TUKE combines advanced laboratories, teaching facilities, cafés and relaxing spaces, providing an integrated environment for study, research and extracurricular activities such as hackathons, concerts and engineering competitions.
Innovation pulses through the on-site University Science Park TECHNICOM, where the TUKE Startup Centre, Incubator and European Digital Innovation Hub CASSOVIUM fast-track ideas from prototype to market and anchor the region’s start-up ecosystem

Ulysseus Košice Week

Running 20 – 24 October 2025 at the Technical University of Košice, Ulysseus Košice Week is set to be the alliance’s flagship multi-event of the year, packaging twenty back-to-back activities into one vibrant programme and marking 5th anniversary of Ulysseus European University.

Alongside high-level governance meetings such as the Ulysseus Summit, the week weaves in ten internal project sessions, specialised workshops and student assemblies while opening its doors to the wider community through four headline public events: Ulysseus R&I Conference (Navigating Pathways: Digital Transformation of Industry), open presentation of Ulysseus Innovation Hub at TUKE (Connecting R&I for Digital Transformation), public event Inclusion in Action (Bridging Academia and Society through Ulysseus European University) and the art-and-science event Creative Playgrounds.

By blending strategic project work with outward-facing forums on digitalisation, entrepreneurship, inclusion and the arts, Ulysseus Košice Week will transform Košice into a living laboratory of Ulysseus research, innovation and civic engagement, showcasing the alliance’s impact across Europe.
