Learning outcomes

 

  • Trace its evolution and determine its place in relations with the West during that period.
  • Deepen knowledge of the various aspects of Russian culture from the 15th to the 17th centuries within the historical and socio-political context.

 

Course content

  • The reigns of Vasily II and Ivan III
  • The artistic and religious revival under Ivan III. The reign of Vasily III
  • The reign of Ivan IV, known as ”the Terrible” (1533-1584)
  • The extinction of the Rurik dynasty and the Time of Troubles (1605-1613)
  • The early Romanovs and the opening towards the West
  • Religious architecture of the 16th-17th centuries

  • Completion of the introductory test for the course
