Ulysseus Academic Writing in English

The course Academic Writing in English offers an innovative way of exploring the world of Academic Writing. It  delves into three different, yet connected, areas of the concept of Academic Writing. The course is targeted to PhD students studying at Ulysseus partner universities. Please note that the registration is binding.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the course the students

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of areas of research literature within contexts related to a selected field of study.
  • apply and further develop ideas and concepts within a specific research contex
  • are able to critically assess knowledge, and integrate it accurately into own writin
  • are able to write in accurate and correct academic style.

Knowledge creation

  • Knowledge, style and quality of academic sources
  • The concept of ontology (different and varied conceptualizations and understandings)
  • The concept of academic style, in speech and in writing.
  • Exploration of academic reading
  • Accessing good quality academic texts
  • Disseminating relevant information and data
  • Detailed critical readings of quality peer reviewed academic

Writing and text creation

  • Writing cohesive paragraphs
  • Structuring cohesive academic paragraphs
  • Applying accurate academic vocabulary
  • Well-structured academic papers
  • Creating academic texts for specific purposes
  • Creating abstracts, short conference papers, journal articles
