More than 1,000 registrants to join the Ulysseus Open Event on May 11

Over a hundred opportunities for researchers, innovators, students, citizens, and representatives of companies, institutions and NGOs have been already published on the Ulysseus Open Event marketplace. The full agenda, now available, allows participants from 30 countries to hold 1:1 meetings to foster networking and collaboration opportunities within the Ulysseus Community.

More than 1,000 registrants to join the Ulysseus Open Event on May 11

1 012 participants from 30 countries around the world have registered so far for the Ulysseus Open Event, to be held online this Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. CEST (check the agenda here). Registrants will have the opportunity to learn more about the Ulysseus Campus, its six Innovation Hubs and all the opportunities the European University can offer to the Ulysseus Community, including academic degrees, research and entrepreneurial projects, and international mobility in a wide variety of topics. Registrations are cost-free and are open even during the day of the event through this link.

125 networking opportunities published

The virtual event, that will be held through online video-conferences on the match-making platform B2match, aims to interconnect the diverse actors of the Ulysseus Innovation Ecosystem and help to co-create the Ulysseus structure. Since the registration opening on April 26, 125 opportunities for researchers, innovators, students, citizens, and representatives of companies, institutions and NGOs have been published on the Ulysseus Open Event marketplace for networking and collaboration opportunities within the Ulysseus Community, including those promoted by Ulysseus Innovation Hubs.

Scheduling 1:1 meetings with other participants

This unique opportunity to generate new contacts for facing new projects and activities in the context of Horizon Europe and Erasmus + programmes will be supported by the possibility to schedule targeted 1:1 meetings before and after the Open Event takes place and during its lunchbreak.

Attendants from the six Ulysseus partner universities (University of Seville, USE, Spain; University of Genoa, UniGe, Italy; Université Côte d’Azur, UCA, France; the Technical University of Košice, TUKE, Slovakia; MCI | The Entrepreneurial School®, Austria; and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Finland), as well as from the 95 Ulysseus associated partners, will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from other European universities, EU institutions, companies, R&D Institutions, NGOs, associations and govern agencies.

A packed agenda full of topics

Ulysseus General Coordinator Carmen Vargas will kick off the Ulysseus Open Event on May 11 at 9:30 a.m. (CEST), when she will deliver her welcome words and introduce the Ulysseus Open Event agenda and the Innovation Hubs activities.

At 10:30 a.m. (CEST), Vargas will give the floor to Sierd Cloetingh, President of the Academia Europaea; Johan Stierna, Team Leader and Scientific Advisor on EU policy in the European Commission’s Joint Research Center (JRC) in Seville, and Siegfried Walch, Ulysseus Joint International Center, who will present the Ulysseus Innovation Ecosystem, including the different initiatives that will be launched by the Alliance to foster cross-border innovative collaboration during the first plenary session Building synergies between education, research and innovation: the Ulysseus Innovation Ecosystem. Both the event’s opening and the plenary sessions will be livestreamed through the Ulysseus’ Facebook, Twitter and YouTube official pages.

Three parallel sessions in the morning

Following the first Plenary session, attendants will have the opportunity to choose one of the three parallel sessions that will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CEST). During the first one, titled How can students participate in Ulysseus European University?, an introduction to Ulysseus from the students’ perspective and its opportunities will be offered, including initiatives such as the Ulysseus Campus, our joint/double degrees, mobility, traineeships and career development programmes, entrepreneurship and student associations.

The second parallel session will discuss the challenges in harmonising the Ulysseus partners’ approach and strategies to progress towards gender equality, respect of diversity and inclusion under the title Gender in STEAM – Ulysseus actions. Questions such as how to integrate a sex and gender dimension in research and teaching activities and how to promote respect of gender balance and diversity in research teams will be addressed.

Open Science at Ulysseus will be the topic of the third paralel session, in which panellists will make an introduction to Open Science and the latest developments, including the presentation of the ambition of the EU’s open science policy and Horizon Europe programme.

Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence

Right after the lunchbreak, in which attendants can use the opportunity to hold 1:1 meetings, a second Plenary session will be livestreamed under the title Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence Innovation Hubs in Ulysseus: New opportunities for networking in Horizon Europe & Erasmus+.

Sylvain Antoniotti, Innovation Hub Coordinator for Ageing and Wellbeing (UCA); Viliam Fedák, Innovation Hub Officer for Digitalisation (TUKE); Erika Hlavatá and Ivan Filus, Horizon Europe National Contact Points in Slovakia; Ari Alamäki, Innovation Hub Coordinator for Artificial Intelligence (Haaga-Helia); and Harri Ketamo, Founder and Chairman of Headai, Finland; and Charles Bouveyron, Director of the 3IA Institute, France; will address seven digitalisation- and AI-related topics.

Four more parallel sessions in the afternoon

Closing up the Ulysseus Open Event, four more parallel sessions will be held at 3:00 p.m. (CEST). The first one, focused on the Ageing and Wellbeing Innovation Hub (UCA), will include research themes, areas of collaboration and networking to connect researchers.

On the second one, speakers will present the Energy, Transport, Mobility and Smart Cities Innovation Hub (USE), including its objectives, structures, how to get involved, targeted calls for proposals (Horizon Europe, Erasmus+, etc), and the different initiatives that will be launched as part of the Hub.

The Ulysseus Innovation Hub of Tourism, Arts and Heritage (UniGe) will be presented during the third parallel session in the afternoon, including an open discussion on the future for tourism and cultural heritage in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, including topics varying from digitisation to the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals (UNSDG).

The Food, Biotechnology and Circular Economy (MCI) Innovation Hub’s board goals, mobility and research opportunities will be presented during the fourth parallel session through the promotion, implementation of research-group discussions.
