The summer school on Sustainable development of yachting and cruise industry started in 2022 as a part of the Erasmus+ CBHE project Fostering Internationalization at Montenegrin HEIs through Efficient Strategic Planning (IESP). It is a first Montenegrin accredited lifelong learning programme. The summer school provides students with 2 ECTS and is conducted in English. It is organized by the Center for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Montenegro, Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor.

About this summer course

The summer school on Sustainable development of yachting and cruise industry started in 2022 as a part of the Erasmus+ CBHE project Fostering Internationalization at Montenegrin HEIs through Efficient Strategic Planning (IESP).

It is a first Montenegrin accredited lifelong learning programme. The summer school provides students with 2 ECTS and is conducted in English.

It is organized by the Center for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Montenegro, Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor.

The lecturers are eminent professors and professionals from Montenegro, Albania and the European Union.

The summer school will enable additional education and training to future (students) and current (professionals employed in companies) experts in the field of blue economy by strengthening individual competence and creating a management structure that will better meet the challenges of the future maritime industry development.

It is an interdisciplinary programme that includes the wider field of maritime affairs, maritime operations, and their management, nautical and cruising tourism, their impact on the environment, and management of the protection of the marine environment, coast and others.

Course content

  • Management of sustainable yachting and cruise industries: introduction to contemporary coastal tourism, sustainable yachting tourism development and marina management, sustainable cruise tourism development and cruise port management;
  • Sustainable marina and cruise ports operations: Assessing the main navigation parameters, planning and development of marina and cruise port infrastructure, safety and security in marina and port areas;
  • Environmental aspects of sustainable yachting and cruise industries: Environmental impacts associated with maritime operations;
  • Visit to the Cruise port; Visit to the Marina;
  • Visit to the Shipping/Tourist Agency;
  • Visit to the Institute of Marine biology laboratories

Learning outcomes

After finalizing the summer school, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the latest trends in nautical and cruising tourism
  • Apply modern management and marketing methods in marinas and cruise ports
  • Explain modern methods of navigating yachts and cruise ships
  • Describe the concept of infrastructure development of modern marinas and cruise ports
  • Apply modern methods in order to ensure the safety and security of marinas and cruise ports
  • Classify different types of pollutants from yachts and cruise ships and methods of their removal

Registration is available through this form. In addition to filling in the registration form, the documents that should be sent via email to pfk.summerschool@gmail.com are:

  • Short motivation letter introducing the applicant, interest in the topics, motivation, and expected benefits from IESP Summer School, particularly concerning own studies and/or career goals, and/or the possibility of disseminating Summer school topics through education or awareness sessions within their institutions or countries
  • Applicant’s CV
  • Confirmation of studying for students or confirmation of employment for professionals

 Important

  • The notification of acceptance to applicants will take place in May 31, 2024.
  • There are 15 spots reserved for Ulysseus students at this summer course.

Fees

For the students the tuition fee is €250, while for the professionals is €350. Tuition fee covers teaching materials, ligh lunch boxes, coffee and water. Instructions for payment are on the following link.
