Arabic Intermediate 1

This book-based course is aimed for those interested in learning Arabic at an intermediate level. We will be working towards level B1, so learners who access it should already be familiar with the alphabet and basic A2 vocabulary and grammar.

The course will be synchronous, meaning you will have mandatory live online classes with a teacher available to assist you with any questions or needs you may have in real-time.

 

Ninety-minute classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 19:30 to 21:00 CET from February 5th to May 24th, with breaks for Easter week, Seville’s Fair, and local holidays.

Learning outcomes

Through active engagement and completion of this course, the student will be able to manage communicative formulae and grammatical, lexical and phonetic content, as well as sociocultural aspects, which will contribute to the progressive development of their communicative competence in Arabic and to the improvement of their oral expression.

It is also intended to reinforce the student’s confidence in the knowledge already acquired, in their capacity for self- learning and in the development of personal work strategies and in collaboration with others.

Course content

  • Read texts on familiar topics and understand the main ideas;
  • Have confidence in your ability to guess the meaning of new words from context
  • Speak about yourself, your life, and your environment, and initiate and sustain conversations on a number of daily life topics;
  • Paraphrase if necessary to make yourself understood;
  • Understand native speakers accustomed to dealing with learners of Arabic as a foreign language;
  • Write paragraphs on familiar topics and correspondence connected to daily life;
  • Form and understand all basic sentence structures of Arabic;
  • Be familiar with some of the differences between formal and spoken Arabic, and
  • Be aware of aspects of Arab culture connected to everyday life.
  • Students will need a copy of the following textbooks:
