Université Côte d’Azur is opening a call for two (2) PhD positions on the theme of “Ageing and Well-being.“
This call invites proposals from all disciplines related to this broad theme, as part of the Ulysseus alliance, a network of eight European universities. Funded under the Erasmus+ program, Ulysseus represents a community of over 225,000 students and approximately 15,000 teachers and researchers. The alliance includes the University of Seville (Spain), Université Côte d’Azur (France), University of Genoa (Italy), University of Münster (Germany), MCI
(Austria), Haaga Helia University (Finland), Technical University of Košice (Slovakia), and University of Montenegro (Montenegro).
One of Ulysseus’ key objectives is to tackle major societal challenges in Europe, fostering collaboration across its member institutions. Each university leads an ‘Innovation Hub’ focused on a specific theme, and Université Côte d’Azur has chosen “Ageing and Well-being” as its area of focus, in line with the strategy developed through the IDEX program and in collaboration with local stakeholders.
Eligibility & Application Requirements
This call is open to students from all universities, regardless of their geographic location.
- The proposed project must involve a collaboration between a research team from Université Côte d’Azur and another team within the Ulysseus Alliance.
- The student is required to identify a thesis supervisor from Université Côte d’Azur and obtain their consent to supervise the project. Additionally, the student must also seek a supervisor from another university within the
Ulysseus Alliance and secure their agreement to participate in the project. - A document listing the research teams and topics at Université Côte d’Azur that are related to ageing can be downloaded here.
- The student must prepare a detailed research proposal outlining the objectives, methodology, and relevance of the project within the “Ageing and Well-being” theme.
- While co-supervision by research teams from both institutions is highly encouraged, it is not a strict requirement. This collaboration should demonstrate added value in terms of interdisciplinary or international
expertise. - The student must be enrolled at Université Côte d’Azur for the duration of the PhD program.
- The thesis topic must align with the thematic scope of the call, in accordance with the strategic priorities of the Ulysseus Innovation Hub led by Université Côte d’Azur.
- Applicants should have a strong academic record and meet the requirements for PhD enrollment at Université Côte d’Azur.
- Previous experience or coursework related to ageing, well-being, or a relevant field is considered an advantage.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree in a discipline pertinent to ageing and well-being is required
Evaluation criteria
- Scientific quality and feasibility of the project
- Quality of the supervision and of the main collaborator
- Excellence of the candidate (in particular their ranking/distinction obtained in Master)
- Ability of the candidate to master the different aspects of the subject
- Candidates should be prepared for a potential interview
Required Documents
For the research project:
A short scientific presentation of the project (max 3-page recto-verso) detailing:
-Summary (1/2 page) detailing: primary discipline, secondary discipline and primary Doctoral School (and secondary, if applicable);
-Scientific aim and impact
-Originality & Feasibility
-The relevance of the consortium
For the candidate:
-CV of the candidate
-At least, one recommendation letter of previous supervisor/tutors
-Master transcript including detailed marks and ranks (when available) (if the Master is not finished yet, a transcript of the grades obtained so far and a letter of the professor in charge of the Master stating at the very least that he/she is confident in the fact that the student will obtain his/her degree)
-Motivation letter (max 1-page recto)
For the supervisor and the main collaborator from the other discipline:
-Letter explaining the link of the thesis subject and support laboratory (max 1-page recto)
-Letter of support from the Ulysseus partner
-CV of supervisor and co-supervisor (if applicable), with a list of main publications in the past 3 years (max. 3 pages per supervisor)
